Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the classic Western massage style, using massage oil or cream and long flowing strokes. It is also the basis for many specialty styles of massage, such as deep tissue, trigger point,myofascial, sports, pregnancy and treatment massage.
The therapist generally uses massage oil to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish massage is done with the client draped. The part of the body being worked is uncovered while the rest of the body is covered. The body is never exposed.
The goal of Swedish massage is to increase the levels of oxygen in the blood and to release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid build up, and metabolic wastes. Swedish massage increases circulation without increasing the heart rate. It aids in realigning ligaments and tendons which in turn increases range of motion and relaxes scar tissue. Swedish massage also as the ability to stimulate as well as sedate the nervous system depending on the duration of the massage.
With continued massage sessions stress levels can be reduced, both emotional and physical.
